Swiss Days 5K

Swiss Days!

We got up early to run the Swiss Days 5K.  I ran it along with Jase, Jared, and Josh.  They all beat me – even Josh!!  I was hoping to beat 30 minutes but didn’t quite make it.  I ran it in 30.27.  I felt pretty good about that.  Josh got 27.01.  Jase got 21.39 and Jared got 20.20.  After the race I had to hurry and get Jaiden ready for the parade by doing her hair and makeup. 

I felt bad that I had to miss parade but I didn’t feel too bad since I brought the kids to the Ivins parade and activities last Saturday.  They said that the parade was good but long.  I had an interpreting workshop to go to and I couldn’t miss it since my certification renewal comes up next month and I barely have enough workshop hours.  That went from 9-1.  It was pretty good.  Then I came home and took a nap and ate lunch.  The kids were all over at Swiss Days for pretty much the entire day!   

SCHS Homecoming

Jase took Eve Sumner to Homecoming tonight.  He said that they had a fun time.  He had asked her with a bunch of school supplies and a little poem:

Well, school has started and homecoming is near

But don’t worry there is no need to fear

You have a date for the dance, it’s me of course

But to find out who I am, you must go to the source

Education has the answers; at least that’s what I’ve been told

So here are some school supplies to help this mystery unfold

Like any other test, this one is timed

You must reply before next Saturday, but first my name you must find.

Eve answered him with a Scantron with the answer circles filled out to spell "Y-E-S."

For the day date Jase's group went to the Height's park.  His group included: Marshall Schmutz and Alissa Van Valkenburg, Tristan Quinn and Rachel, Ky Phillips and Kelcee Jerman, Josh Willits and Rocio Lopez and Devan Lemmon and Allison Lang.  They made sandwiches for the girls and then played Ultimate Frisbee.  For dinner they went to Wendy's and brought toothpicks for the sandwiches and brought a table cloth and red decorative flowers.  They went to the dance right when it started and were the first ones there.  Jase said that they didn't like the DJ and music but they still had fun.  After the dance they went to Tristan's house and watched "The Lego Movie."  He was home by midnight!

Ivins Heritage Parade

Jaiden was in the Ivins Heritage Parade this morning.  I liked this parade so much better than the St. George Fourth of July Parade.  This one was short and sweet with nice variety and enough candy thrown out to make the kids happy!  Afterwards the kids made projects that the Home Depot had provided.  We would have stayed for the other activities but Jenna had a birthday party to go to across town and so we left early.

Rodeo

We brought the kids to the Rodeo tonight and they really enjoyed it!  Rick had to bring Josh and Jenna home early because Jenna was starting to fall asleep.  Janelle and Jaiden stayed with me until the end.  Here are some pictures taken from my phone -- they didn't turn out very good.

Jaiden Dancing at Round-Up Days

We went to Round-Up Days to watch Jaiden perform with her Trio dance company.  She is in a little group called "Radiance."  She did a great job!  The kids got to walk around and so some of the little activities and I bought them each a snow cone.  Here is my beautiful little dancer!  She is growing up! 

 

 Afterwards the kids got to try some of the booths and tried breaking boards with Ethan Grant at the Karate Booth. 

Temple Names

Look how many temple names Jase found last summer to take to the temple!  He went to the temple almost every week and did the baptisms for about half of these names himself.  The other half he gave to family and friends to do.  Rick, Jared, and Janelle took a whole bunch with them on their church history.  Many people have been blessed as a result of this church history and temple work -- including Jase and our family!

Gift of Tongues: Letter 17

Hello World!!

This week was soooo so much better than last!!  The gift of tongues is REAL. So real. I have been able to understand so much!! And communicate... a little :)  I can pretty much bear my testimony in very broken slow Spanish so now I'm able to participate in lessons a little bit more!

Something that I've learned so far from this experience is to not take for granted the opportunity I have to communicate with people in my own language. It's helped me sooo much to be more bold with people who speak English! Before if someone said they were Catholic or not really interested I would just thank them and leave, but now it's so different. 

We had this really cool experience where we were trying to visit an investigator but she wasn't home, but her next door neighbor was outside. He actually called out to me, asking what church we were from. When we told him, he said, "Oh, I was looking for a church, but it's not this one. Sorry...Not Mormons.  I wouldn't go that extreme."  Aaand I wouldn't take that for an answer! 

We got him to open up to us, shared some scriptures that fit his needs perfectly (Thanks spirit :)), got a Book of Mormon in his hands and asked if the Elders could come teach him, and he said yes!!! It was seriously so cool!  It's amazing, the different ways the spirit  can soften people. 

Other things that happened - 

-We taught a guy in the midst of a zillion mosquitoes.... we have approximately 80 bites between the two of us. 

-We taught a very scary word of wisdom lesson to a smoker... and she accepted it!!! Wooooo :) 

-We tracted a loooot! Lots of trailer parks haha. I'm getting pretty okay-ish at deciphering which houses are white people and which houses are hispanics. 

I looooove love love missionary work!! And I love being able to share it with all of God's children, no matter what language they speak :) It's so cool! This has been such an amazing experience.

Hermana Carlson

Sister Jensen had the opportunity of working with Hermana Kelsey Carlson in the same area and more recently as companions for Hermana Carlson's last couple of weeks before finishing her mission. We were so excited to learn that Kelsey Carlson and her beautiful family were visiting St. George this weekend! We had them over for dinner and it was so fun to get to know them! Good luck at BYU, Kelsey!
