We went to Jenna's dance concert the past couple of nights. It was held at the Hafen Theater at Tuacahn. The concert was beautiful! I really liked the story too. Jaiden and I went on Thursday night. Friday night I went with Rick and Jase and Ellen while Jaiden babysat the boys at our house. Others who came to support Jenna were: Ethan, Anna and Evie Ence, and Grace and her mom, Julie.
Jenna looked so pretty and graceful -- I love watching her dance!! I have lots of pictures of her in her pink dress, but not her red outfit, darn it! I will include the videos though!! (The background goes kind of wonky in the videos. We will get a professional video of the whole concert later.)
Jenna had her awards night for Snow Canyon Middle School tonight. I told her that I wanted her to go, especially since she had to miss it last year due to dance. All of the teachers get to choose one student for the 8th grade and one student for the 9th grade for an award in their field of study. Last year I didn't know that Jenna would be receiving any extra special awards (other than high GPA) and then she received the department award in history. It made me with we had gone! See that post HERE.
This year there was another surprise. She almost didn't want to go to the awards ceremony tonight because she said she was probably just getting the award for high grades, which many students get. But we had a surprise this year also! Her Chinese teacher picked Jenna to receive the award for Chinese! So that was a fun surprise! We also got to see her friends sing the national anthem and she got to take pictures and hang out with her friends after the ceremony, so I think she was glad that I made her come, ha ha!!
Jenna and Claire wore their matching dresses!! (Yes it was planned!)
Clarissa got the award for Language Arts!

Jenna had hung out with friends after the ceremony and it was too dark to take any pictures just of her with her award and so I made her take a couple more the next day before school!
Jenna performed with the Westside Hip Hop 3 class in their Defile Concert tonight!! She did great!
I was really disappointed when I went to print off my tickets though. I am "that person" that orders dance tickets right when they open so that I can get seats in the middle and close to the front! I always put the date that the tickets open for sale in my calendar and make sure I buy the tickets right away. Well, the tickets opened for sale while I was at work and so I ordered them on my phone. I chose tickets right in the middle, just a few rows back from the front. Pleased with my purchase I didn't give it another thought until I went to print off the tickets tonight, thirty minutes before the concert.
I noticed that the tickets said "row U." I thought that was strange, so I went in to the website as if to order tickets and noticed that I had misread the map of the seats. The word "Stage" was at the bottom of the picture, instead of the top. I had ordered seats a few rows from the back instead of a few rows from the front! I was so upset with myself!! If I had ordered the tickets on a computer I am sure that I would have noticed this, but since it was on my phone, I didn't see the word "stage" and assumed that I had ordered tickets near the front! Well, lesson learned! If we do this again next year I will be more careful! It ended up working out okay since I have a telephoto lens and was still able to get a decent video of her dance number.
In the Southwest concert Jenna was in several numbers, but this one she was only in one. So that makes it not as fun to watch the overall concert since I am pretty much just interested in watching Jenna, ha ha, but I still enjoyed it. (For ease in picking out Jenna, she is the fourth one over from the right. She is wearing white Nike high-tops with a black stripe.)
Jenna sure has enjoyed dance this year -- both in Southwest and in Westside!
Jenna made it into Madrigals!! Way to go, Jenna!! Jenna tried out with her two friends -- Anna and Grace. I was so happy and relieved when all three girls made it!!! It is going to be a fun year!!
Jenna had dance last night and so she skipped out on the middle school awards' night. Come to find out that not only did she get the award for high grades, she was also awarded the departmental award for U.S. History for the 8th grade!! I wish we could have been there to hear her name called and see her get the award! Way to go, Jenna!
Jaiden and Jenna had their dance concert this weekend! There were five Senior girls this year who were showcased throughout the concert (This is Jaiden in the top left corner of the poster). It was a beautiful show! (The whole program is scanned and put in Dropbox if anyone is interested). We will also be getting a DVD of the whole show. I am excited to watch it again when we receive it! Grandma and Grandpa Westra came down for the weekend to watch the concert with us and both girls had several friends who came and watched them also!
Here is a little "write-up" from Jaiden...
Here are some of Jaiden's pictures from the show!
Here are some of Jenna's pictures. She was in a dance called "Mirrored Illusions." She was also in the "The Bridge" song. She had a cool costume which un-snapped from the top to transform into a completely different dress!
Jenna and Grace sang a duet at their 7th Grade Talent Show! I am so glad that they decided to do it. They did a great job! They sang "She'll Love You." I will have to post a video later. They also sang with their Honor's Choir. It was fun to watch! I brought them to Dutchmans for a treat after!
Jenna (7th grade) wrote
a song for Reflections and won on the school level. Then her song went on to
win on the council level, and then the Region level!! (She won in the category
of music composition for the 6th to 8th grade division.) She has been teaching
herself to play the ukulele and loves to compose songs! It is so fun to hear
her play and sing! Here is the song (thank you to my sister, Jen, who added it to YouTube!)
