Sadies Answer and Mary Poppins Poses

Janelle asked Adam Dunn to Sadies and he promptly answered with this darling poster!!
Also, all three of these girls are going to be in the upcoming production of Mary Poppins at the High School (Janelle is Mrs. Brill, Jaiden is the student choreographer and also Neleus (the statue that comes to life in the park and dances around the stage), and Jenna landed the lead role of the little girl, Jane Banks! I can't wait to see them all perform in November! We were trying to get some "Mary Poppins" poses and this was the best they could do. At least they look cute!!

Swiss Days Parade

After the 5K Rick cooked a big breakfast of hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage! The kids all went to the parade and then Swiss Days with friends. Rick and I went to the temple to support Jase's friend, Logan Kessler, who was receiving his endowments today. So we missed Josh's soccer game at Desert Hills High School and Jaiden and Janelle's Madrigal performance at Swiss Days. Josh said that he had a great game and even scored the winning point, so he was pretty ecstatic about that!

Jenna went to Ella Thomas's birthday party at House of Jump this afternoon. Tonight Josh went to Caden Morris's birthday party and Janelle went to a party at the house of one of her Madrigal friends. Jaiden and her friends spent the evening at our house with Jenna. Rick and I went back to the temple for the Deaf Session since one of our Deaf friends was also receiving her endowments today. There were many deaf people there. We even ran into Sally Green and her husband. Peter Green passed away many years ago. Sally remarried 8 years ago. I am not sure of her married name. We haven't seen her in years! It was fun to visit with her!

Swiss Days 5K

This year Josh, Jaiden, and Jase ran the Swiss Days 5K. None of them had trained, but they all did pretty well! I think Jase was trying to beat Josh, but Josh was the victor. Jase wasn't far behind though. Jaiden and Mariposa ran together. Jaiden beat her time from last year by two minutes and Josh beat his time from last year by 2 minutes and 48 minutes. Great job kids!

Swiss Days Pioneer Activities

As soon as the girls got home from Mary Poppins rehearsal they all rushed over to Swiss Days. Jenna met up with Clarissa and they enjoyed the Pioneer Activities by the church. The other kids all joined up with their friends as well to enjoy the booths and activities at Swiss Days. Rick and I took a walk in the beautiful evening, stopping to visit with friends -- several of whom we hadn't seen in quite a while. It was fun!

Induction into the National Honor Society (NHS)

Tonight Jaiden was inducted into the National Honor Society. Janelle came as a returning member, helping to pass out programs. I am so proud of these two girls and the focus they put on both their education and also on service to others!

Primary Program

Today was Jenna's last Primary Program!! In a few short months I will no longer have any children in primary! I feel a little sad over that fact, but at the same time I am excited that in a few months Jenna will be in my Beehive class! It is weird to think that my baby will be part of the Young Women in our ward! The program was beautiful. I counted the names of the children in the program -- 43. That seems really small. We had around 70 children when I was primary president. Jenna sang the final verse of The Miracle as a solo and it was beautiful! So many people complimented her on her sweet, beautiful, pure voice!

Give Me Liberty, and Iceberg!!

Jenna was the second person in her fifth grade class to pass off all of the requirements for her "Give Me Liberty award!!" Way to go, Jenna!! The top three students to earn this special award can help pass off other kids. They have clear until Spring to pass it off (and it is given at the end of year graduation) but some of these kids are just over-achievers and passed it off now!! Tonight Rick and I helped Jenna celebrate by bringing her and her friend, Clarissa, to the Deaf Social at Iceberg and then to the Dixie/Snow Canyon Football Game. Then the girls went swimming (with a cool huge moon in the background)!!

September 11th Flags

For school Jenna interviewed me about my memories of 9-11. I had shared some of those memories in a previous post HERE.

This morning we woke up early and put up flags around the neighborhood with the Young Women.
Later on as I drove through the neighborhood to pick up Jenna from school I felt touched to see all of the flags waving in the breeze, lining every street in between our house and the school. It was an inspiring sight!

Today there was only a handful of students in each of Josh's classes at the Middle School. The reason for this is that a threatening note was found written on a calculator case at the school a few days ago saying something about a school shooting on September 11th. Later on someone sent a text, which was later posted on Instagram, saying that everyone should stay home because there was going to be a school shooting.

The school sent out e-mails to parents about this probable hoax/threat and upped security. Because of all this the school said parents could decide what was best for their students and that students who stayed home would not be penalized. The police did an investigation and found the student who sent the original text that was spread around social media and the student was arrested the evening of September 10th. We sent Josh to school. He said that his classes only had 5 or 6 students. Apparently the student thought the text would be "funny." The whole situation made me really sad. There is already so much heartache surrounding the memories of this day. It is a day to remember and honor those who lost their lives, not a day to cause trouble and stir up fear in others!

Janelle Homecoming!!

Tonight Janelle went to the Homecoming Dance with Justin Gulbranson and had a great time! They had their "day date" on Monday (Labor Day) since Justin and Janelle's friend, Brea, are both on the Cross Country team and they had a meet this morning up North. For the day date Monday they went to the Spinny Park and played sand volleyball and had a picnic. Tonight they went to Green Gate Village to take pictures and then went to Cliffside, which is a really nice (and expensive) restaurant that overlooks St. George. Then they went to the dance. Janelle said that the high school gym was amazingly decorated and completely unrecognizable! I love how all of the girls in their group have modest dresses! Janelle ordered her dress from Amazon and it really suits her. I love the fact that she wore her Young Womanhood medallion with it. I am so proud of Janelle for the choices she has made. She is beautiful inside and out!
