Toyota Corrola 2025

Saturday morning Rick had an online meeting and then we headed up north with Jaiden and Jenna. We were going up for Elsie's baby blessing on Sunday. We arrived at Shane and Alicia's around 2:00 and Rick and I went car shopping, since Rick is selling his car to Jaiden and needs another one for himself.

He had done quite a bit of shopping around online and a couple of cars picked out. The first one was at Hertz in Murray. It was over $18,000 for a 2023. We went to test drive it, but couldn't get the USB cord to bring up the navigation system. We tried a few different cords, but we couldn't get it to work. Rick said that he has had problems with that before with some of the cars he has rented in the past and wanted to make sure it worked with the USB cord, without having to rely solely on the bluetooth.

We finally gave up and went to Larry H. Miller and test drove a toyota corolla 2025. It was priced at $22,763. We had planned to get a 2023, but decided that it would be worth the extra money to get a new one. We haven't had a brand new car since we lived in Ivins, over 21 years ago. At that time we had purchased our rent-to-own Geo Prism.

We ended up buying the Toyota Corolla LE. It was almost $25,000 with taxes and everything. So Rick has a new car! And Jaiden finally has a car too. This car had better last us a very long time, ha ha!

Wendy's New (used) Car: 2022 Toyota Rav 4 LE

Earlier this month my Subaru started making a rattling noise and felt like it was shaking when starting. I brought it to get checked out and they came back saying that it would cost $4200.00 to fix. We had already sunk a couple thousand a few months earlier. Since the car was only worth around $6K to $7K, we didn't think it was worth the repairs.

So we shopped around and ended up buying a 2022 White Toyota Rav4 with 34,000 miles (or something like that). So far I love the car! The only issue that I have is that I have a harder time finding where I parked it since there are so many cars with a similar color and look. I always spotted my light blue subaru right off since it was more distinct. So now I have to pay even more close attention to where I park so that I am not walking around pushing the unlock button and listening for a "beep!"

Car Accident

Jared called me this morning and said that he had just been in a car accident. He was driving Josh to school and looked down for a second to see if he had brought his ear buds (he was planning on going to the gym after dropping him off). When he looked back up the car in front of him had stopped suddenly at the crosswalk and Jared plowed right into him. The car he hit belonged to the older brother of one of Josh's friends. Josh and his friend hopped out of their cars and headed to school -- leaving their older brothers to deal with the accident. Jared called me and then called the police. I headed over and the other mom (who I also know) was there too. She said that this is the third time her son has been hit like this!

They filled out the police report and I called Rick. Then came even worse news. Rick told me that Jared had "liability only" insurance on his car. This means that our insurance would cover the other car, but not Jared's car. I just felt sick when he told me this! The car was not drivable and I had to call a tow truck to tow the car to the body shop in town. I called the body shop and told them to call me with the estimate. A couple of hours later the body shop called me to say it would be $8500.00 to fix!! What? Jared only paid $6000.00 for the car and so obviously it wasn't worth it to fix it.

So now Jared has a totaled car and no insurance money to pay for it. I feel so bad for him! Here he has been working so hard and was in a great financial place. He was able to pay for the car in cash when he bought it right after his mission and it has been a great car for him these past eight or nine months. So now he is out several thousand dollars and has no car. Jared said this was pretty much the worst day of his life! He just signed a contract to move into an apartment near campus with friends in a week, so now he will need to pay for housing as well as a new car.

Jared called the body shop to see if they would buy the car for parts and they said they don't do that but referred him to some other places. Jared made some phone calls and found one that would take it for $300.00. Better than nothing I guess. Tough day -- and expensive lesson learned!!

Happy Father's Day!!

Jaiden, Janelle, and Janika slept over at Shane and Alicia's and so they aren't in these pictures, but here are my handsome men!  Rick is wearing the fancy tie that Josh decorated for him for Father's Day!  Jenna didn't want to cooperate for a picture, but we tried!

We enjoyed church with my mom and dad and then headed over to Scott and Amy's for the Father's Day BBQ!  Rick and the kids headed out right after dinner in order to get back in time for Jared to leave for Scout Camp at 6:30 the next morning.  I stayed an extra day with Jaiden and Janelle.  My mom and I did water aerobics in her little pool and then went out to lunch with my sister, Jeni Blackham, while Grandpa took the girls swimming.  Later that night I took the two girls swimming again. The next morning we headed back to St. George in our "new" car that we bought from my mom and dad (Gold Honda CRV)!  It drove great -- I love it!
