Girls Camp Day 2

(Written by Janelle) Today at Girls' Camp we went rappelling and mountain climbing. There was a two mile hike to get to the area where we did it that was pretty fun (it was really steep going down). Once we got there our ward started with rappelling and climbing, which was really fun! It took a lot of time to get ready though so there was also a lot of waiting. Then we ate lunch and did some other activities and headed back to the campsite (the hike was a lot harder since it was going up and it was HOT).  We just hung out and had fun for the rest of the day. We had spaghetti and told scary stories. Sister Steel told a great one that made everyone jump out of their seats! It was hilarious!

 I (Wendy) had to set a good example and go rappelling too! It was pretty terrifying!

 I am glad I did it though!  

 

Girls' Camp Day 1

My girls have been talking about Girls' Camp for weeks! They were SO excited!! We met at Sister Frei's house at 9:45 and headed up to Beaver Mountain to the Beaver High Adventure Base. Jaiden, Brynn, Emily, and Mariposa all drove with me. My car had a difficult time getting up one of the hills on the way to the campsite and so I was grateful when we finally arrived! As soon as we arrived we started setting up tents. Luckily we had some experienced girls (like Janelle) who knew what they were doing, because many of the leaders  (meaning me) were clueless! After we got everything set up we had to move our cars clear down to the parking area at the bottom of all of the camp sites.

We ate our lunches and met at the amphitheater with the Stake for introductions and certification first aid training and then went on a hike to a really pretty overlook. Tonight we had an awesome dinner of baked potatoes with all of the toppings (including chili), salad, and dessert! Mari Purdy was our camp cook and did such a fantastic job! She brought mesh bags for each person with a plate, cup, hot-chocolate cup, and utensils for everyone so that we could wash our own dishes and hang them up to dry instead of wasting lots of paper plates and cups. Jenny Compas brought up an awesome sink for washing hands. Lisa Frei was our ward camp director and she did an awesome job too. She has done this before and knew what she was doing. The girls were roughing it more at this campground than previous years in Cedar Mountain. There they actually had nice bathrooms with flushing toilets. Here they had porta-potties!!

It was hard to sleep -- I didn't fall asleep for a long time and didn't sleep very well on the ground. Several of the leaders and girls brought cots. They had the right idea! It was cold, but not too bad. I was warm enough in my sleeping bag although I did end up wearing my beanie. We were supposed to bring hand-warmers but we had waited too long to get them and then none of the stores had them. I was fine without them though. The girls were up talking and laughing (loudly) for what seemed like hours! In spite of our late night the sun woke us all up bright and early around 6:30 a.m.!

 

  

Ward Flags -- they were supposed to be 2' X 3' but some were bigger. We were the National Guard. The other wards were the Coast Guard, Army (the YCL's), Marines, Air Force, (the Stake Leaders were the Generals), SWAT, Rangers, Special Operations, and Navy.

Chinese Camp!!

Jenna had a great time at Chinese Camp with her friends! It used to be at her school, but now it was at someone's home clear across town and so I was grateful to be able to carpool!

Jaiden and Jenna's Dance Concert

Jenna and Jaiden did great in their dance concert tonight! It was based off the book "You Are Special" and "You Are Mine" by Max Lucado and included lines from the book and dance numbers that told the story. It was really nice! We really enjoyed the show!
