Summer BBQ
We enjoyed a lovely evening with perfect weather and great food and company at our neighbor's annual BBQ.
Josh was having so much fun with his friend who was back in town visiting his grandma and grandpa. They were leaning over the hot-tub splashing and laughing. Whenever Josh thought I wasn't looking he would fill up somebody's goggles with water and drink it. I know -- gross! Then he showed off how wet he was! All of the kids had a great time and we could barely drag them away to come home.

Happy Birthday Thelma!
Janelle, Jaiden, and Josh had a blast at their friend Mariposa's birthday party this morning. Then we packed everyone in the car and headed across town to see Thelma.Our Relief Society Presidency had a potluck birthday party for Thelma North at her nursing home today. The kids and I brought her a little gift and wished her a good day!
If you want to see a lot of smiles, just walk through a nursing home with lots of little children. You will see smiles spilling all over the place!!

Jim Cook
Jim Cook passed away Thursday night after struggling with cancer for the past year. His daughter, Katie, is one of my sweet little primary students. Jim's blog, "My Cancer Story," is on my side bar if you get a chance to look through it. It is amazing to read his story and to see Jim's acceptance and faith throughout this trial.
I am so grateful for the chance we got to know Jim and his family this past year. They are an awesome family and have had a profound influence on our lives. He will be greatly missed. On the other hand, how wonderful it must be for him to finally be free of the disease that took his life. I am sure he will do an incredible work on the other side. The Cook family will be moving soon. We will miss them. I will miss seeing Katie's bright smiling face in primary. The lessons we have learned from their family will stay in our hearts forever!

Night Terrors
Josh is such a sweet kid. But he has been such a challenge lately. I think it was yesterday we were putting him in time out every other minute because of his screaming. He has the loudest, most obnoxious, high pitched, ear-splitting scream I have ever heard. Whenever he screams, one of us simply picks him up and takes him to his room and puts him in Jenna's crib (if it is empty of course). He could probably climb out but hasn't tried surprisingly enough. As soon as he calms down, we bring him back. Sometimes he catches himself mid-scream as soon as we start walking towards him and says, "no, no, no!" He hates to go to time out.
Then last night he had night terrors. In our family whenever the baby wakes up in the night, I am the one to get up and take care of her. Rick's duty is to take care of any of the other kids that wake up in the night. They don't get up all that often, but it happens -- bad dreams, illness and things like that. Well, last night was one of those nights. However, Rick was gone overnight on a Seminary Inservice Retreat in Cedar City and I sure missed him!
Josh woke up 45 minutes after I put him to bed having one of those delusional night terror things. He cried and screamed for 45 minutes. I tried to comfort him and have him sit by me while the older kids and I were watching a movie but he was screaming (with his eyes shut) and wouldn't wake up. He was sobbing and saying that there was a bubble in his eye. He screamed over and over, "Make it go away Mommy, make it go away!!” It was so sad!! If Rick were here I would have had him give him a blessing. Janika came home from a late baby-sitting job and tried to take over by reading him stories. Then I said a prayer outloud with him and he eventually fell asleep in my arms.
I thought it was over for the night but I was wrong. An hour later he woke up screaming and crying again. I just didn’t know what to do for him -- nothing worked. He wouldn't lay by me in my bed. He kept waking up every hour. After the third time of this I was so tired and getting really frustrated and even angry. He had already woken the baby up twice. I had just re-trained her to sleep through the night (again) several days ago and had stopped nursing her during the night. But tonight I was too tired to deal with two crying kids and so I nursed her back to sleep knowing she would now start waking up in the night again and I'll have to do the whole crying-it-out-thing all over again another night.
I finally got Josh to calm down and go back to sleep (although I don't think he was ever awake) by rocking him in the rocker in his room. I can’t believe the girls slept through it all. We went through the whole cycle several times.
Now I am completely exhausted and have a busy full day ahead. Josh woke up early as usual and seemed perfectly fine -- running around as happy as could be. I don't think he even remembers any of our long, tortuous night together.
Now if I can just hold on until nap time!

I Like to Look For Rainbows!
We have had the most beautiful Spring-like temperatures this June! Usually the temperatures are soaring into the upper 90's in June and we are all taking shelter either indoors or in the pool!
But this year as been unseasonably cool and glorious! This whole week has been in the mid 80's and it has been so nice!! I don't ever remember it being this mild in June in the past 12 years that we have lived here.
The mornings are even a bit chilly. We've been able to turn off the AC and open up our windows at night. It is just heavenly!! We've had lots of clouds and some sprinkles of rain every now and then.
Tonight we were blessed with a gorgeous full rainbow. We tried to hurry and get some pictures -- although they don't do it justice!
I just love to look at the clouds and the sky. There is something so peaceful and surreal about it, like a piece of heaven on earth!

Sister Time -- Cookies and Facials!
Jaiden got this cute little apron, cookie and brownie mix, and cooking things from the Purdy girls at her birthday party. She couldn't wait to try them all out. So Janika helped her make cookies today...
Janika also said she would give Jaiden a manicure, pedicure, and facial. The only problem was we didn't have any cucumbers. So she improvised with apples. Ummm....I don't think you can do that can you? But since I have never had a manicure or pedicure or facial in my entire life, what do I know? Jaiden loved being pampered -- and that is what counts! Aren't big sisters great?!
