Janelle and Jaiden's friend, Genevieve, wrote a play. And it was pretty darn impressive (especially for an eight year old!) She wanted to put on a production of her play and so she passed around parts and rehearsal schedules to different kids in the neighborhood. The kids practiced several times at her house (when they weren't running through the sprinklers in her backyard) and then tonight they performed the play at the church, complete with costumes, scenery, music, microphones, and refreshments! They did a great job! There was a little giggling going on but for the most part they remembered their lines, spoke loud and clear, and stayed in character. Great job, kids!
Mari (Genevieve's mom) is amazing. She home-schools all of her children, grows a garden, often has half the neighborhood over to her house, and she put all of this together while single-handedly taking care of her family while her husband was working out of town. Quite an ambitious undertaking when you consider trying to hold rehearsals with ten or so hyper kids age eight and under! She even sewed the costumes. She directed the play tonight while carrying around her 5 1/2 month old baby in a backpack on her back!) Seriously amazing.
Oh, and as a side note, when Eve said, "Sistah, Sistah, wheh ah you?" it brought back memories of when my sister and I were little. We shared a room and we would lie in bed making up stories. One of our favorites lines was: "Sistah, Sistah, Wheh ah you?" (We were speaking in an English accent -- or trying to anyway). Then we would go on and make up all sorts of adventures about being trapped in a witch's castle and plot ways to escape.
But anyway, back to the play. Janelle and Jaiden were the maids. Jaiden took her job of dusting the kitchen set very seriously. She dusted away while flashing a huge smile for the camera. It was so funny. Jaiden and Janelle both enjoyed being in the play. Although Janelle was just a tad bit jealous that Genevieve (the princess) wins Boots (the guard) as her love! (Since Janelle has let it be known several times that she plans to marry Boots someday!)
