Tin Foil Breakfasts and Testimony Meeting (Father's Day Flee 2010)

Well, we didn't prepare very adequately for this trip and we ran out of propane fuel for our camp stove.  I felt like one of the ten virgins who ran out of oil.   It would have taken over an hour to drive all the way down the canyon and back up on a curvy gravel road and so we decided to just make do with camp-fire cooking.   So instead of making "tinfoil dinners," Janika and I tried our hand at making "tinfoil breakfasts."  We threw in some hash brown patties and ham and cracked a couple of eggs into the foil, wrapped it up and cooked it over the fire.  The after picture looks really gross but they actually tasted pretty good.   Some of the kids just opted for hot-dogs for breakfast and we wrapped some corn on the cob in foil and cooked it in the ashes as well.  

After breakfast we had a testimony meeting.  Along with "Bearing Testimony Spontaneously," as Elder Bednar so eloquently taught last conference in his talk, "Watching With All Perserverence," (April General Conference 2010) it is nice to have a family testimony meeting every once in a while as well.  

Elder M. Russell Ballard stated, "Also consider holding a family testimony meeting where parents and children can express their beliefs and feelings to each other in a private and personal setting" (“What Matters Most Is What Lasts Longest,” Elder M. Russell Ballard OCT CR 2005)

At our little meeting almost everyone shared sweet and simple testimonies.  The spirit was felt in spite of wiggly little ones.  I thought it was neat that Jase expressed how strong he felt the spirit when he went to the temple to do baptisms for the dead.  He said it was just like it was "burning inside" him.  Funny, because when I had asked him how it was the first time he went all he said was "good."   We have family testimonies each year at the end of Father's Day Flee and they have always been poignant and tender.
